LOOT >> Zihuatanejo, Mexico

I haven’t been able to write here as much but amazing things have been happening in the last few months – especially my first international DJ gig this past weekend in Zihuatanejo, Mexico!  I love taking photos so here’s a collection of shots from my journey!

I was booked to play as part of the LOOT Summer Fest Series in connection with El Fanzine in an effort to promote the creation of an enthusiastic community of art and culture in Zihuatanejo.  There was a special film screening of Gone (directed by Mark Kronemeyer) earlier in the night and I went on until the doors closed around 2am.

My journey to Zihuatanejo was a good 14 hours with two layovers in Houston and Mexico City but regardless I was excited and the views over Mexico City were amazing.

I arrived at the hotel around 10pm so I decided to crash early since I had my sights set to go surfing first thing in the morning.   The hotel (Viceroy Zihuatanejo) was gorgeous, I mean c’mon, there were flower pedals laid out on the bed to welcome me.

Here’s another snap from the hotel living room I took the next day – so luxe 🙂

I managed to get up at 6:30am the next morning and took a ride to a neighboring  beach about 15 min away (I wish I could remember the name of the beach) but I got a lesson from a really rad Surfer (and instructor) named Edgar.  Him and his brother Leo (I think that’s the right spelling) surfed every day for the last 40 something years.  Insane.  The waves were pretty rough and a bit rocky  (hence some bruises afterwards but nbd).  It was so much fun.  After a couple hours and ingesting several cups of salt water I had to call it quits, but I got up on the board many times and would totally do it again.  We headed back into the city to hit up the vegan market for some grub and live music/art.

I wish I could have gotten more pictures with my hosts, Andres and Tara (literally the sweetest and most kind people i’ve met) but here’s Tara checkin’ out some delicious lentil meatballs at the vegan market.  That Thai veggie wrap had everything from mango to avocado and coconut in it.  The peanut sauce on it was on point.

We went to go eat more food with at a local spot down the street from LOOT where I had my first Ceviche and other delicious seafood.  This place was next to a wetland with Iguanas, turtles, crabs, and crocks (yes I definitely saw one moving around the water while I was eating). The beach was just down the walkway from the restaurant too.

From there we headed back to the hotel where I could rest a little and prepare my set.  I got to Loot around 9:30 and ate some more delicious food and got set up to play.  The space is so beautiful there, I played downstairs in the shop which was transformed into a dance floor and hangout spot.  Here’s a couple shots from the shop earlier in the day.

The night ended around 2 am and we all got to hang out a bit after my set.  Had lots a sweaty pictures taken 🙂

And just like that with all things they must come to an end.  I packed up and stopped by LOOT one last time for a delicious breakfast (I almost couldn’t eat the fruit, it looked too pretty to eat) But it was delicious! and the Smoked Salmon and cream chease sandwich was like no other.  I’m still salivating over it.

I wish I didn’t have to go, but I will most definitely be back. <3
